ABOUT RESTORATION OF IMPORTANT RECORDINGS | ||
Using computers we are able to remove most kinds of noise from recordings. This is not filtering. We actually take a sample of the undesired noise and through a very calculation intensive process strip the noise away leaving the desired audio untouched. We can remove pops and ticks from vinyl LPs, hiss and hum from tapes and restore the original recording. This process is not always perfect, however, and depending on the recording it may be better to leave some noise on the recording. Each case is different and we will advise you of the best course of action. In any event the original recording you provide for us is not altered. The restored version can be put on to CD or DVD. Records are cleaned thoroughly. While it is still in solution dirt is vacuumed from the surface to ensure it does not dry and remain on the record. It is amazing how much grime builds up over the years! Then the record is played on our transcription turntable and the output is read onto computer. Noise and hum are removed and/or substantially reduced and the resulting output is burned to a CDR or DVD. We can handle nearly any size record from 7" diameter to 16" diameter and speeds ranging from 16 rpm to 98 rpm. This covers 33 1/3, 45, and 78 rpm recordings and anything in between (78's are notorious for being non-standard in speed). If you are blessed (or cursed) with perfect pitch please be aware that 78 rpm records are notoriously off speed. This means the music on the record may be flat or sharp. We can correct that but you must provide us with a listing for the correct key for each piece or song you want restored. Otherwise we'll work with the piece at a standard 78 rpm. Tapes are inspected carefully for deteriorating binder adhesive, rewound slowly to relieve sticking and to get a good tape pack. Tape is cleaned, if necessary. We can handle 1/4" tape in either Full track, 1/2 trk (professional formats) or 1/4 track consumer format on 5",7" or 10 1/2" reels. Audio cassettes are acceptable also. We are not equipped to deal with carts, 8 track cartridges, micro-cassettes and 1/2" or larger tape. If you can provide a player for these formats we'll consider restoring them. The charge for this service is $50.00/hour to restore to CD or DVD with a 1 hour minimum.. |
